The silver town of Schwaz is located at 550 metres altitude, is the main town in the district and has 13,000 inhabitants. The town has retained much of its medieval style by maintaining some of the buildings which date back to the hey-day of silver mining. You should leave plenty of time to investigate the various sights. The historic Old Town in Schwaz is definitely worth a visit.
From the town hall tower you get the best view over the beautiful old town with its famous Golden Roof and the arcades – all against the impressive backdrop of the Alps. The Court Church with its famous "Schwarze Mander" (black bronze figures), the Olympic ski jump, bobsled track and the Innsbruck zoo with more than 2000 animals of the European Alps are other highlights.
